ICAI Launches Self-Paced Module Test Portal for Flexible Exam Preparation

Introduction

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is modernizing its examination process with the introduction of the Self-Paced Module Test (SPMT) Portal. This new system offers candidates a flexible method to meet their learning requirements in Corporate & Economic Laws and Strategic Cost and Performance Management, as mandated by an Act of Parliament.

Launch of the Self-Paced Module Test (SPMT) Portal

On 18 May 2024, ICAI's Examination Department launched the SPMT Portal. This platform serves candidates who have completed the necessary learning hours for Self-Paced Online Modules A and B. These modules are an integral part of the New Scheme of Education and Training, which ICAI initiated on 1st July 2023. To qualify for the Final Examination, candidates must pass these modules after finishing both Groups of the Intermediate Examination.

Module Sets Overview

Candidates will engage with four module sets:

  • Mandatory Modules:
    • Set A: Corporate & Economic Laws
    • Set B: Strategic Cost Management
  • Elective Modules:
    • Candidates can select either Set C or D (options may include Risk Management, Financial Services).

Exam Pattern and Passing Criteria

  • Format: The examination consists of multiple-choice questions (MCQs) that include both case-based and standalone queries.
  • Passing Marks: Students must achieve a minimum of 50% in each module. There will be no negative marking.
  • Impact on Final Exams: The marks obtained in SPMT will not affect the Final Exam results.

Flexible Examination Scheduling

To improve the exam experience, ICAI allows candidates to choose their preferred examination date, location, and time slot from a broad selection of options. This flexibility assists candidates in scheduling tests that align with their personal commitments.

Registration and Test Details

Candidates can register through the SPMT Portal using their SSP login information. Tests are administered in a computer-based format at designated examination centers.

Examination Fees

The fee structure for the Self-Paced Module Test is outlined below:

  • India: ₹500
  • Nepal / Bhutan: ₹850
  • Abu Dhabi/Bahrain/Doha/Dubai/Muscat/Kuwait: USD 150

Hardware Requirements

To participate in remote exams, candidates must meet the following hardware specifications:

  • Minimum 2GB RAM
  • Webcam
  • Internet speed of 2–5 Mbps
