Central Bureau of Narcotics Uncovers Illicit Drug Manufacturing Lab in Karnal, Haryana

On July 5, 2022, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) in New Delhi acted on specific intelligence and raided a clandestine kitchen lab in Karnal, Haryana, where narcotic drugs containing Diphenoxylate were being illegally manufactured. The Preventive and Intelligence Cell of the CBN had identified House No. 323, Sector 6, as the location of this operation.

During the raid, authorities arrested Manoj Kumar, son of Sh. Gulshan Kumar. The seizure included:

  • 45.855 kg of a Diphenoxylate mix prepared as a drug
  • 7.240 kg of loose Diphenoxylate tablets
  • 19,000 Nimesulide tablets, which were used as an ingredient in the narcotic powder

Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, Diphenoxylate is classified as a narcotic drug with a commercial quantity threshold set at 50 gm. Following the initial raid, a subsequent operation led to the arrest of Mahesh Kumar, son of Mohan Lal, who operates the Modern Medical Store in Nissing, Karnal, on July 7, 2022. Kumar is believed to be a key figure behind this illicit manufacturing operation.

Charges have been filed under various sections of the NDPS Act, specifically Sections 8, 21, 25, 27A, 28, 29, 30, and 35. The arrested individuals are implicated in distributing the narcotic powder containing Diphenoxylate for intoxication purposes across multiple states. Ongoing investigations aim to uncover the primary supplier of these narcotics.

Narcotics Commissioner Shri Rajesh Fattesingh Dhabre emphasized that the Central Bureau of Narcotics is committed to identifying the main supplier of the drug promptly.
