The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has recently detained a Superintendent from the CGST, Bhiwandi Commissionerate in Mumbai on charges of bribery. The Superintendent was first accused of demanding an undue advantage of Rs. 30 Lakh to expedite a GST matter concerning a specific company. After negotiations, this amount was reportedly lowered to Rs. 15 Lakh.

Upon receiving a complaint, the CBI acted promptly, setting a trap to apprehend the Superintendent. He was caught in the act of accepting a bribe of Rs. 5 Lakh, which constituted the first installment of the negotiated amount.

Following the arrest, CBI officials conducted searches at the Superintendent’s office and residential properties located in Mumbai and Ghaziabad. These operations yielded a substantial amount of cash, approximately Rs. 42.70 Lakh, along with documents indicating various movable and immovable assets. Legal Proceedings
The arrested Superintendent was presented before the Special Judge for CBI cases in Mumbai. After the hearing, he was remanded to police custody until 21.08.2023 in accordance with the court's order.
