CBIC Launches GST Registration Grievance System in 2025

CBIC Rolls Out Grievance Redressal System for GST Registration Hiccups

Got trouble with your GST registration and feel stuck? The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has stepped in with a new grievance redressal system to help applicants get fair and speedy resolution—especially when they feel a query was raised unfairly or if their application got rejected without proper reasoning.

Why This Move Matters

The CBIC has acknowledged that at times, applicants face unnecessary delays or unclear objections while applying for GST registration. To address such issues, the Board issued Instruction No. 03/2025 on April 17, 2025, with a clear message: there's now a channel to raise your voice if something doesn’t feel right.

Who Can Use This?

If you've applied for GST registration and your Application Reference Number (ARN) falls under Central jurisdiction, and you believe a query or rejection was against the rules mentioned in the instruction, you now have a way to lodge your grievance directly.

How to Raise a Grievance

  1. Email It In: Each CGST Zone will soon publicize a dedicated email ID where applicants can send their complaints.

  2. What to Include in Your Email:

    • Your ARN
    • Whether your jurisdiction is Centre or State
    • A short summary of your issue (for example, unjustified query or rejection)
  3. For State Jurisdiction Cases: If your grievance turns out to be under State GST rather than Central, don’t worry. The CGST office will forward your case to the relevant State department, and also copy the GST Council Secretariat for transparency.

What Happens Next?

The Principal Chief Commissioner or Chief Commissioner in each zone will:

  • Review the complaint
  • Act on it quickly
  • Let the applicant know the outcome

If your complaint is valid, you can expect corrective steps. If the officer’s original query or rejection was proper, you’ll be informed of that with an explanation.

Monthly Oversight

To make sure the system runs smoothly, each Commissioner has to send a monthly report on how these grievances are being handled. These reports go to the Directorate General of GST, which will compile them for the Board to review.

Got Problems with This New Process?

If anything's unclear or not working, you're encouraged to raise it directly with the Board. They’re asking for feedback to make sure the mechanism stays effective.

In short, the CBIC is trying to make things smoother and more accountable. If you’re stuck in GST registration limbo and think something’s not right, don’t just sit on it. Use the new system and get your concern looked at properly.
