Invitation for Applications for GST Appellate Tribunal Members

The Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, is inviting applications for the positions of Judicial Members, Technical Members (Centre), and Technical Member (State) within the Principal Bench and State Benches of the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT). Eligible candidates can apply online from 19th February 2024 until 31st March 2024, 5:00 PM.

Overview of the GST Appellate Tribunal

GSTAT is the second appellate authority established under the Central Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017 (CGST Act) to adjudicate various appeals pursuant to this Act and respective State/UT GST Acts. The Tribunal comprises one Principal Bench in Delhi and 31 State Benches across various locations.

Key Positions Available

1. Judicial Member

  • Number of Posts: 63
  • Eligibility:
    • Judge of High Court, or
    • Serving or retired District Judge/Additional District Judge with at least 10 years of cumulative experience, or
    • Advocate with a minimum of 10 years of experience in litigation involving indirect taxes.

2. Technical Member (Centre)

  • Number of Posts: 32
  • Eligibility:
    • Officers with a minimum of 25 years in Group A in the Indian Revenue Service (Customs and Indirect Tax), or
    • All India Service officers with at least 3 years in indirect taxes or finance within the Central Government.

3. Technical Member (State)

  • Number of Posts: 1
  • Eligibility:
    • Officers with a minimum of 25 years in Group A or equivalent in the State Government, not below the rank of Additional Commissioner of VAT or SGST, or
    • All India Service officers with at least 3 years in indirect taxes or finance within the State Government.

Application and Eligibility Details

  • Age Requirement: Minimum 50 years as of the application deadline.
  • Fixed Salary: ₹ 2,25,000 per month, with additional allowances equivalent to benefits for Central Government officers at Pay Level 17.

Application Procedure

  1. Online Application: Complete the online application as per the specified format.

  2. Employer Certificate: Serving candidates must include a certificate from their employer or head of department as specified in Annexure II.

  3. No Travel Allowance (TA/DA): Candidates will be responsible for their travel arrangements to personal interviews, if necessary.

Selection Process

The selection will be conducted by a Search-Cum-Selection Committee, which will review applications based on qualifications and relevant experience. Shortlisted candidates may be called for interviews, and the Committee will provide a recommended list of candidates to the Government for appointments.
