NACIN Hindupur Ground Broken: India's Greenest Customs Training Facility

The National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes, and Narcotics (NACIN) Campus at Hindupur, Andhra Pradesh, will be India's first-class facility to train both customs and GST officers. The campus will be designed to be energy and water autonomous with a vision towards being fully carbon neutral. High-tech training facilities, narcotics and wildlife laboratories, a simulated airport, and a simulated port will be some of the key features with the government aiming to put in place its vision of progressive and sustainable customs education.

Customs IGCR Rules: Paperless Automation for Importers

As a part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat movement and in order to further enhance the Ease of Doing Business, Customs (Import of Goods at Concessional Rate of Duty) Rules, 2017 have been made fully automated since March 2022. Importers can now:

  • File notifications electronically
  • Avail relief
  • File monthly statements online

Besides that, the electronic payment system for customs duty is also operational in full capacity through the ICEGATE portal, offering hassle-free and contactless experience to businesses.

GST Revenue Collection Hits Record Highs

India’s Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue continues to reach new heights, with collections in April 2025 exceeding ₹1.87 lakh crore. This significant achievement reflects robust economic activity and heightened compliance from taxpayers. The data-driven GST framework, including collaborative action plans between Central and State GST authorities, has been instrumental in this success.

Chennai’s Drive-Through Container Scanner: Boosting Supply Chain Security

The Chennai Customs has commissioned a state-of-the-art drive-through container scanner that can scan 100 containers per hour. This technology minimizes dwell time and maximizes the security of India's supply chains, thereby making international trade faster and more secure.

CBIC Officers Eligible for Special Operation Medal

In a major recognition, the Ministry of Home Affairs has modified the Special Operation Medal rules to make it applicable to CBIC officers for their exemplary work in preventing narcotics smuggling. The modification refers to the critical role played by customs officers in maintaining national security.

Anti-Evasion Success Stories

Major success stories in anti-evasion are:

  • Ranchi CGST & Central Excise Zone: Totaled recovery of over ₹175 crore in service tax evasion cases.
  • Delhi CGST & Central Excise Zone: Recovered ₹15 crore against fake Input Tax Credit claims.
  • FY 2024–25: CBIC reported a total recovery of ₹1,200 crore from GST evasion cases in the nation.

NACIN Hindupur will be a solar power- and rainwater harvesting-based carbon-neutral campus. Additionally, CBIC's online initiatives, such as Turant Customs and the GST Compliance Portal, have transformed customs and GST management into a digital era, easing compliance for businesses.
