Overview of Insight Instruction No. 77 on High-Risk Refund Verification

The Directorate of Income Tax (Systems) has issued Insight Instruction No. 77 to enhance the verification process of high-risk refund cases. This initiative, executed through the Insight Portal, aims to streamline the validation of refund claims and ensure compliance with tax regulations. Below, we will delve into the specifics of this instruction and its significance.

Insight Instruction No. 77

This memorandum outlines the newly introduced functionality for Jurisdictional Assessing Officers (JAOs) to verify high-risk refund claims.

  1. High-Risk refund cases identified under specific criteria will be assigned to JAOs for timely verification of refund claims in the Insight Portal.

  2. Upon review, JAOs must provide feedback promptly, selecting one of the following options:

    • "ITR can be processed"
    • "Further risk assessment required"
  3. Detailed Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for verifying High-Risk Refund cases is included in Annexure A. JAOs must review all aspects outlined in the SOP prior to giving feedback. Please refer to Annexure B for a step-by-step guide on accessing cases, performing verifications, and submitting feedback on the Insight Portal.
